For community by community. Lead by example. Blacklight ball celebrating light artist, performers and the people who love them. Bridging light artist and dance celebration. Largest SF bay area light event of the year. The Blacklight Ball is an experiment in community event structures by Using an entirely volunteer team of artist, performers and event staff who are admitted free. Each event is different and reflects the unique and gifting people who participate in it. All (if any) proceeds go back to support more non-commerce based art. The Blacklight Ball is an answer to professional produced commercial events that extort arts rather than celebrate them.

We have few rules but event participants are asked to agree to support the following goals~
~ leave no trace but great experience
~ be adventurous/respectful of body/mind/object.
~ protect our freedoms through lawful cooperation
~ everyone is spectator and participant
~ solve any issues with compassion/forgiveness
~ be awesome and have fun


Question~ " What is going on here?"

Answer~ " The Ball started as a blacklight art show by the artist FKO ( known as ULTRA3 in the year 1996.) FKO (so named by some friends at the Burningman art festival of 2000) The blacklight art shows started to offset other artshows of paintings, sculptures and murals. The Blacklight Shows were more for fun and soon turned into a whole nother monster by provided and outlet for all the crazy and ultra creative projects that did not have a home in the "established art world"
By the year 2000 Fko gave up being a selling artist and took on the renegade nature of anti-commerce art, art immediate and art renegade. The Blacklight Ball surfaced as a public fundraiser for the Mysdom Giant Glow Puppet Theatre at StudioZ in 2004 and again as part of the Borg2 Art movement in 2005. The Mysdom Theatre Is a Blacklight Performance show First envisioned by artist Carly Johnson/Reynolds that interprets the work of composer AMON TOBIN through the use of Giant Marionette puppets, costumed dancers, stilt walkers and various lighting effects. The show itself has manifested in different shows over the years but has been most successful with children audiences who become part of the show during the performances. The show is difficult to arrange and relies heavily on volunteer performers who, must eventually find paying gigs to pay the rent.
The Blacklight Ball Itself has grown more into a network of people who are constantly involved in year round projects spanning music, performance, dance, arts and community service who all seem to reunite during this one night. The most amazing thing about the Blacklight Ball is it is run not from an promoters office, but squeezed between people's lives from their kitchens, and emails and small work spaces. Whether you are a student or a nurse or a professional artist, there is a way you can share. through the hundreds of volunteers from the brilliant to the hard working, the Blacklight Ball takes on a life of it's own. Fko may direct the Blacklight Ball between raising a family and writing renegade art theory to would be art students, but it is people like Dr. Fiasco who make our web abilities possible. It is people like Simran who make fascinating art works. It is people like Eunice who make our event staff capable. It is people like DJ prana who come to give people a chance to get down in style.
It may be FKO's idea but the Blacklight Ball belongs to those who come together.
